Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — November 23–28 (noon), 2026 We invite scholars, filmmakers, archivists, critics, and cultural practitioners to submit panel proposals for the 2026 Africana Cinema Conference, to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 23 to 28 (ending at noon). This gathering aims to foster vibrant, transnational conversations on the past, present, and future of cinema across the African continent and its diasporas. Conference Theme: Reimagining Africana Cinema: Histories, Aesthetics, Futures Africana cinema serves as a site of artistic innovation, political imagination, and cultural memory. From the pioneering visions of post independence filmmakers to the bold experiments of contemporary directors, African and diasporic cinemas continue to challenge dominant narratives, articulate new forms of belonging, and engage global audiences. This conference seeks panels that explore the multiplicity of Africana cinematic traditions and the intellectual, aesthetic, and political questions they raise.
